Recently I have been having some bad experiences with my very own special aquarium. A strange disease or pathogen has taken 2 of my pumpkinseed sunfish and has nearly killed our classroom's very special striped rafael.Symptoms & signs of the disease are not at all noticeable until the fish either dies or starts to struggle for life - the disease literally seems to kill fish within hours.
Symptoms include abdominal swelling, lateral external & internal bleeding, partial paralysis on the end half of the fish including jelly-like swellings on the outside, and lack of motion. It seems that all the fish can do when the disease attacks it is to try to breathe and move its pectoral fins. I have seen no signs of ick on these fish. The other fish in the aquarium seem to be active and very happy, which is what makes this disease so strange.
