L332 Green Chubby plecos
Hi friends hope everyone is well.
Anyone breed these green chubby plecos?
I haven't seen them for sale until now!
Anyone interested in hatchlings & have an idea on what these are worth?

I do love the green olive highlights! Wonder if they turn colors like L056.

Re: L332 Green Chubby plecos
Hi,
they can turn colours indeed, like e.g. P. aurantiacus and P. nudiventris. There is no single record though of L 56 turning colours.

Re: L332 Green Chubby plecos
I've got one, I got mine as an only individual in a batch of Parancistrus nudiventris. Not seen any others available or even others other then a commentor on my Youtube keep them. A UK store seems to have them but many of their photos are of Parancistrus nudiventris.
All I can say about colour is mine has small pin point spots, always had them but more obvious when stressed. Really robust fish, I wouldn't trust my bulky, boisterous Baryancistrus with smaller crevice dwelling Loricariids but this little Parancistrus seems to know how to avoid the tyrants he/she lives with. Parancistrus as a genus seems to be prone to various levels of colour changing, not many quite like Parancistrus aurantiacus. Spectracanthicus as a close relative as well seems to get it quite frequently.
Price I don't think there is one set one? I was originally told £60 as that was the price for the P. nudiventris, came back in a year and he/she was still there, they lost the price tag and charged the Parancistrus aff. aurantiacus price of £30.

As I've said to the OP, we don't have many pictures of these guys, or info. So send anything along and I will capture it in the species profile.

Re: L332 Green Chubby plecos
There is no "deliberate" collecting of these for the ornamental fish trade (because the traders believe nobody wants to buy this colorless fish), so the ones coming in are usually bycatch specimens as pointed out above. Sad really, because they are so cool.

Re: L332 Green Chubby plecos
They are cool, plus they are very common in large areas of Xingu. They live northwards and southwards of Altamira, in shallow waters where they are easy to collect too, but as Haakon said, the fishermen even throw them away if they caught one by mistake (thinking it was something else). A price would be difficult to set, but a price like the one for B. xanthellus would be reasonable. Rare grey fish don't sell for the same money that rare colourful fish do unfortunately.

Thanks so much for all the messages team.
I really appreciate it. Well the plecos definitely are more grey than green.
I always loved the chubby plecos. I'll post some pics when they settle down.

Re: L332 Green Chubby plecos
It will be in demand if you manage to breed them, trust me. The small numbers you will hopefully be able to breed are just enough to be spread among the real enthusiasts. I noticed that once more at CatCon last weekend. If you start talking about fish like L 70 or S. immaculatus, which look similar to L 332 in colour, people will suddenly be like "I was looking for them for ages." Tankbred fish are obviosuly much cheaper and easier to obtain, but there is always the small group of people that will help and do their best to keep the species in the hobby.

Re: L332 Green Chubby plecos
I've seen some Hypans (mostly just 236) hunting down and eating them; I assume they must be edible to some extent.AmazonTank wrote: 09 Dec 2024, 17:00 I found these copepods anyone just leave them in the tank for a cleanup crew?
Those L332 really are quite nice! They still probably need to grow a good few centimetres (~6? 8?) before they'll start to spawn, but they look healthy and well.
Oddly enough, the ones I've seen before were all more greenish than yours. Perhaps they vary in colour depending on catchpoint?

Re: L332 Green Chubby plecos
I managed to find a second one for mine. Although regarding colour, it does depend on lighting I find, my original one has reasonable bright lighting so has a stronger greenish tinge. They all seem to have a green colour to them, just slightly. Both of mine can show a tiny bit of pin prick spotting, largely restricted to the fins when not stressed but I suspect this is a juvenile trait. Shame it does seem that only juveniles are coming through but if anything like P. aurantiacus someone will spawn them, hopefully.
