Hello,
I have just recovered 4 S. granulosus that were kept with large cichlids and a tetraodon. So two of them are missing part or all of the adipose fin.
I have had them in quarantine for 3 days in a 450L tank and I notice that their fins are very frayed. They eat well and have no other problems at the moment. The hierarchy has not yet been established properly, which may be the cause of its tears.
Apart from maintaining good hygiene, how can I help them rebuild their fins? They are all affected: pectoral, dorsal, anal and caudal.
I was thinking of putting UV rays on them, good or bad idea?

Re: S. granulosus: damaged fin
Hi kiwidu21.
I presume you mean just putting UV light on the tank filter system, not directly on the fish, right? I don't think that would hurt, but my understanding is that most fish have remarkable healing power if you just keep them in good water and well fed (and decorate the tank to reduce aggressive interactions).
Cheers,
Eric

Hi,
UV yes it is a module that I can add to the filter outlet (so the fish are not directly exposed to it).
I monitor the water quality. For food, I try to vary: bloodworms, fish (pangasius cut into small pieces), pellets. If you have other ideas I am interested.
For the decor, I am adding stones (not sharp) and pieces of pipe to increase the number of hiding places.
On the other hand I noticed that it was the smallest male that was causing problems (mainly towards the largest male). However I had read that it was the females who were temperamental in syno.
