Maps not displaying on CLOG pages

Hi Jools,

None of the CLOG pages I've checked, or genus or family pages either, are displaying the maps. I don't mean the maps aren't refreshing, I mean there is no map on the page.

Yes, forum update combined with a less recent change at google means I need to rewrite how the maps work.

Also noting this is my priority but it is challenging work. The original JavaScript was written by @MatsP and it's a testament to that work it's lasted so long. However, it needs refreshed and it has in it some complex maths (for me anyway!), JavaScript and the new stuff Google has added. I'm also converting the geodata to be presented in JSON as opposed to XML.

Good news! Maps are back!

I have got the new google code working with the new data format (JSON) and it's now back online. The less good news is that there is still a ways to go in terms of correctly zooming in the map based on the range of the markers within. Working that, and other aspects of it, now. I knew this one would be tricky, I've clocked up 29 hours working this so far.

No worries, I am getting there - I'll post here when things are looking closer to final. Meantime, if the maps don't work, try a hard refresh of the page.

Also, if anyone has any pressing changes they'd like to see on maps, now is the time. Not sure what is possible but I am hopping to have differnt colours or images for ytype localities versus occurences and also, if I can, get an inset map feature working whih shows a zoomed out overview of the main map.

Maps are back online to the level of functionality before the upgrade of behind-the-scenes tech. Changes to note:

1. Type localities are purple with a star glyph.
2. Occurrences are green with a certificate glyph.
3. Removed the "don't place marker at Lat:0, Long:0 if body of water doesn't have Lat and Long set. This is to encourage me (and the team!) to get that data in.

Things for me to consider adding.

1. Cloud sourced geo data (e.g. GBIF) in grey with a cloud glyph.
2. Inset map showing wider geo-context.
3. Text or links in the markers to do stuff (e.g. link to that species, or Body of Water pages, or even link to Admin edit that Body of water data).

I'm delighted to say the initial full release of the new maps is now online. Lot of speed, ease of amendment and customisation going forward is now in place as well as the new inset map feature which show an overview of the main map area to provide global context.

I know there will be issues and refinements, by all means post them here or raise new topics. Meantime, I'll move this issue into "resolved".
