Unspotted ancistrus at petsmart
Did not buy it because my quarantine tank is full up and no more room in my tanks for more plecos, but he's an unusual fish. Can guess this is not a domestic? It is being sold as a domestic however.
It did not want it's photo taken or want to be seen, it wanted to hide away, so this is the only photo I could get.
Seen in glass at first, no spots on the belly either.

Nice. That said, it's nearly impossible to know what shows up at a Petsmart or Petco, since they have such poor documentation of what they're getting.
Assuming the store isn't ordering wild-caught fish, this could just be some mutt of a common BN. On the other hand, is this fish matures at about 2.5-3", then it maybe that the wholesaler got hold of something like which is imported to the USA from the Czech Republic.
Cheers, Eric

Re: Unspotted ancistrus at petsmart
I do know this location does deal with *some* wild caught fish. Such as their chaetostoma, panaqolus, and oddball corydoras (I've found weitzmani, c102, and others among their fish, plus ceratogarra cambodgiensis which is another wild caught oddball). So I don't know, it very well could have came in with their panaqolus and one of the workers could have noticed it was ancistrus and put it in the BN tank too. It's also much larger than the BN juveniles they often have--this looks to be a young adult male, at a good 3-4" long (usually they only sell 1-2" babies)bekateen wrote: 28 Dec 2023, 02:25 Nice. Allow me to clarify. Yes there are some fish (including Chaetostoma and Panaqolus) at Petsmart which are wild caught. But BNs aren't one of them. So if your mystery fish is by- catch with Chaetostoma or Panaqolus, then yes, maybe you got something wild and interesting. But if it's with their BNs, it's probably captive bred, even if different.Casscats wrote: 28 Dec 2023, 03:18I do know this location does deal with *some* wild caught fish. True, that may alter things.Casscats wrote: 28 Dec 2023, 03:18Granted, also I am in Canada, heck knows how that plays into the fact.

Yeah it was put in the BN tank, odds are it was probably domestic origin.bekateen wrote: 28 Dec 2023, 03:35Allow me to clarify.
