Ardila Rodríguez, C.A., 2023. Trichomycterus zapatocaensis sp. nov. (Siluriformes: Trichomycteridae) una nueva especie de pez de cueva del departamento de Santander – Colombia. Barranquilla, Departamento del Atlántico, 91: 1-20.

Abstract

Trichomycterus zapatocaensis sp. nov., is a new species of cave, located in Cueva del Nitro, municipality of Zapatoca, 1720 meters above sea level. Department of Santander, Colombia. The new species is differentiated from the others, through the combination of characteristics typical of a troglobial fish, such as skin depigmentation, anophthalmos, others with small black spots, long barbicels, especially the nasal ones (12.3 - 15.7 mm) , reaching the anterior part of the pectoral fin. The pelvic fin surpasses the urogenital papilla. Distance from the beginning of the pelvic fin to the base edge of the caudal fin, reaching the beginning of the pectoral fin, in T. sandovali it reaches the middle of the preoperculum. 35 free vertebrae (35 - 36 in T. sandovali, T. santanderensis and T. guianensis; 34 free vertebrae in T. spelaeus, 33 - 34 in T. donascimientoi, 37 in T. rosablanca). With 12 - 13 ribs. The first pterygiophore of the anal fin, inserted into the haemal spines of vertebrae 16 - 17, in T. sandovali on vertebrae 18 and 19. The first pterygiophore of the dorsal fin between the neural spines of vertebra 21. With 27 - 33 dorsal procurrent rays and 15 - 16 ventral procurrent rays.

There is a possibility that none of the names published in this journal since 2011 are available, since the names are not registered in ZooBank and the journal seems to be electronic only.

This same author has been publishing like this before and has named several species that are considered accepted. His publications seem almost self published (by his institution):

The names are accepted as available because no one has bothered to investigate thoroughly if they are Code-compliant. This is exactly the same situation as for Glyptothorax chavomensis until we confirmed that the name is not available.
