Error message when moving/renaming a species

Post by bekateen »

Hi Jools,

Today I was going to fix an error in the CLOGs, wherein would get renamed to conform with its recently described new name, Loricaria nimairaco; as background, when the new species name was released, I didn't realize it was sp. Rio Atabapo, so I created a new CLOG page for nimairaco instead of renaming the old page.

Today, when I clicked on the rename button, I got this error message underneath the rename page:
[phpBB Debug] PHP Warning: in file /home/webcat/planetcatfish.com/common/classes/species_thumbnails.php on line 495: Undefined variable $article_text

I didn't want to risk completing the move if it would mean some of the old data would get dropped, so I didn't rename the page yet. I'll wait until I get a green light from you on this to go forward.

Thanks,
Eric

Fortunately, this was fairly straightforward to fix. I've checked the rename worked with the new name too. So, all set!

Follow up question. What is the PCF procedure for the old name (sp`Rio Atabapo`)? Do we preserve that by adding it as a common name? or something else (dump it all together? Doesn't seem wise).

Thanks,
Eric

Yes, add as common name. So but not the latin name. :-) Some have been added as a hidden synonym, but the best idea would just be a common name of Rio Atabapo Loricaria or similar.

Thanks for this input.

So that all the old links in the forum don't become bad, it seems to me that adding it in two ways is appropriate:
  • Visible as Rio Atabapo Loricaria in the common names.
  • Hidden as Loricaria sp`Rio_Atabapo` in the list of synonyms.

By doing it this way, all the old CLOG tags ([ clog]Loricaria sp`Rio_Atabapo`[/clog]) in the forum should continue to be valid, but it should reduce the encouragement to reuse the name in future posts.

Alternatively, I'd prefer to add the latter as a hidden common name, but I see no option to hide common names.

Cheers, Eric

Yes, this works. That’s effectively what the hidden feature is for.
