Adolfo not eating

I recently obtained 6 juvenile Corydoras Adolfo's. I noticed that some but one in particular is quite skinny. I seen some sifting through the sand, but I am unsure if they are actually eating. They are in my L-260 pleco tank who usually stay in the cave all day, therefore, shouldn't have problems getting to the food. I feed small amounts multiple times, such as in the morning and evening. I have read that sometimes with this species having them with adult Corydoras helps with feeding. Is this true? I have a group of 5 sterbai that are mature and eat very well. They have been given a variety of different catfish tabs, bloodworms, baby brine shrimp etc.

What are some ideas to get them to eat better? What foods will entice them more? Will putting them with other corydora help?

Hi Cleo21,

What is the temperature in the tank?

For food, if you can get live blackworms, get some and let them escape into the sand. This will allow the corys to dig for them.

@bekateen Would you say that feeding live blackworms/having them in the tank is key to success with corydoras in general? I never really considered feeding mine live food since, frankly, I don't really like handling it(bugs kinda creep me out I guess) but if it's important I should overcome that small obstacle, my corys seems to eat just fine(but only get frozen food/pellets).

Sorry if this is considering hijacking the thread but don't really feel it's warranted to create a new one!

Live food can be very helpful for adapting wild fish to captivity and stimulating breeding. Prepared food either sits on the sand surface or gets buried and can decay there. But many cory species sift sand looking for live invertebrates to eat, so I find live worms that burrow in the sand and do not drown underwater to be good food.

One did end up passing away. Others look okay but I’m still worried. I’m not able to feed live black worms. I have never seen them offered at any pet store or aquarium store near me. I do have dried ones on the way, hopefully it will help.

Hello,
I would isolate the C adolfoi and try to get them going that way. In my opinion is never a good idea to have new, stressed fish going into a community tank. There are already hierarchies established and the weakest or new will not get to enjoy too much food. Also, it could have had parasites. Even though it would eat, the parasites would be the only beneficiaries of the nutrition.
