Corydoras Eques setup

Joe's aqua has some captive-bed eques for sale. When I first saw it I was amazed by that. I then asked how they managed to spawn them in an aquarium setup. So it turned out that they have the job done in a "half-outdoor pond in Taiwan"... Still quite an achievement in my opinion.

No spawn yet, but lots of boys chasing the ladies and every now and again I'll have a pair swim off and play in the current together.

I have officially started the "rain season" with higher flow, and cooler temperatures. Will include a portion of RO water with weekly water changes as well. Temperature in the tank has been brought down from 76F "dry season" temps to 72F "rain season" temps.

Getting additional frozen daphnia and brine shrimp as well, instead of just weekly.

I was just thinking that and I'm pretty sure it is "Brazilian Pennywort" (Hydrocotyle leucocephala).

Yes indeed, hydrocotyle leucocephala, aka Brazilian pennywort. Great plant! I've got it secured on the driftwood rather than planted and it does great

Good thing I was right for once as I wen't to the LFS today and managed to get myself some! Mine look pathetic though but hopefully it will grow back, spread it out amongst my tanks 3 aquariums so hope is that it will atleast thrive in one of them and then I can go from there I tried both planted and floating. I have tried to place on behind the heater chord(or well more like it found it's way there by default and I helped it some to stick).

How did you get it secured?

Fishing line in some spots, wrapped like a vine in others.
Avoid planting the stem of it though it tends to melt where it's planted. And don't shade it out. It doesn't need high light, but it doesn't like shade either. Otherwise, just some liquid ferts will keep it happy, especially nitrogen. If the leaves turn yellow, it needs nitrates. Doesn't need c02 doesn't need anything overly fancy.

If you take thin sticks, you can twine it around the sticks and lay it flat on the substrate it'll grow as a carpet as well

Okay! I don't really understand what part of it is the stem and what's not(the plant is not in the best of shape so that doesn't help) ill have to check in the morning once lights are on. Maybe ill just try to attach it to something like you did!

If in doubt, let it float, see where it starts growing from. But it's a really simple plant and will grow from random nodes along the main stem as well over time. So doesn't 100% matter which direction you place it. The leaves will turn flat towards the light anyways. The stem you don't plant is the whole thing, none of it under the substrate.

But how would I attach it in the substrate if not doing that? Currently have it floating but to be honest I think my circulation in the aquarium might be abit strong and it doesn't look to hot right now, might try to attach it to some branches or whatever with your method or just cable ties, I also wonder if superglue would be an option for it like with other plants.

Fishing line is good, can simply tie it horizontally onto branches.
If the stem is in the substrate, it tends to melt that part, so it does better just tied to things

Had to move my pygmies in with the eques, they had an incident in another tank with my skirt tetras eating one, so felt safer to move the pygmies into another tank.

So they have pygmy cories as tankmates now. Getting along fantastically and the pygmies seem really happy with them

Been some time since last update.
No spawn yet but lots of prespawning behaviors.

Setup as of right now. It's coming along well.
Less tannins for the "rainy season" and increased water flow and temperature dropped down to 72F. Lots of live foods offered as well as higher protein dry foods.
