Guianacaras/Bandit Cichlids with L397?
Anybody who think this combination wouldn't work? Water parameter wise it checks out and from what I can read the guianacaras(dacrya) seems to be pretty timid as far as cichlid goes.

I've never kept cichlids with plecos... well, not since 1976.

If it is a display, provided there are lots of places for the plecos to hide, it should work fine. The biggest issue I find with such set ups is that the Panaqolus will gorge on any uneaten cichlid food. This can lead to bloat issues over time. I would use high protein dry foods sparingly.

Actually, I would refrain from feeding Guyanacara high protein food in the first place. Not because of the plecos, but because sand eaters such ad Guyanacara will not find much high protein food in natureShane wrote: ↑05 Oct 2021, 11:19 If it is a display, provided there are lots of places for the plecos to hide, it should work fine. Appreciate the input decided against the whole thing and ended up with a school of colombian tetras instead, they look amazing already only got 10 though and feel like 10 more wouldn't hurt.
In the, not so distant, future I will most certainly get guianacaras but hopefully in a slightly larger tank.
Interesting note about the diet of them not finding very much protein in the wild, what would you roughly feed them?

I have spawned other Panaqolus sp on a steady diet of driftwood with occasional vegetables added (they love cooked broccoli stems) and frozen or dry food once every two weeks.
Below you can see wood waste and broccoli waste.
Keeping any type of Panaque is the fastest way to get your PhD as a fish poop engineer.

Oh I meant the guianacaras but it is true I feel like my tank is a showcase for different kind of waste products more than anything else! Mine won't eat broccoli for some reason, can't say that I blame them!
I like to feed the yams since it's easy to see the orange mounds and just vacuum them every now and then.. sadly the snails also seems to like it snail + poop tank What kind of panaque(s) do you have?

Lol, it was a Hypostomus with Geophagus. The cichlids spawned constantly.
Cheers, Eric

I half expected some kind of(well atleast in relevance to the aquarium hobby) life changing event with blood and carnage. Must say that I am a bit disappointed! But I suppose a ton of cichlids is pretty much carnage in it's natural form.

I kept Guianacara owroewefi icw all types of catfish for many years without any problems.
Even the smallest tetra's were never harmed.
Put in wood and rocks so the catfish can hide whenever the cichlids are breeding.
