My Rubberlip Plecos (L445) are very active during the day.

They live in a 80cm aquarium, with four powerheads giving them a nice strong current, with two of the powerheads' venturis used to add extra aeration. I do twice weekly water changes with rainwater.

I keep the aquarium at 24celsius, and it gets some direct sunlight during the day.

My observation is, that even when the sun shines directly on the aquarium they are out and about, scampering from rock to rock. I feed them baby marrows and have begun experimenting with making them bloodworm jellybabies to graze on.

Has anyone else observed their Spotted Rubberlips being active during the day? I have checked and their bellies aren't sunken in like you get with underfed pleco's, and they aren't sick.

Short 3second video of one of them scampering about: I took great care to try replicate the recommended setup suggested on their species page, with sand, lots of round stones and strong current everywhere and since they are in this aquarium they have shown this active behavior.

Can anyone confirm if they have seen this as well?

It depends on the species, and sometimes it can mean the fish is distressed or very hungry. However, seeing your excellent set-up I just think it's very settled fishes. So, well done!

I added two airstones and a strong airpump just to test, and it definitely seems the more oxygenated and agitated the water is; the more active they are. Five of the six are currently bustling about doing rubberlip stuff, which includes arguing over who has ownership of which river-stone.

I guess they are just a happy bunch!
