Finally mustered enough courage to pull the trigger
I already have the Junk 1972 reprint of Hamilton (not the cheap, horrible Indian ones), but this absolutely blew me away.

One of Scotland's best exports! That looks awesome and I wonder if you have found a favourite illustration or two?

Re: Finally mustered enough courage to pull the trigger
I have no single favorite, but the drawings are exquisitely rendered, considering the circumstances under which they were executed. It’s also interesting to see the manuscript names written on the drawings (e.g. Pimelodus bagarius was originally named Silurus tigrinus).

They are indeed. Putting this one on the Christmas list (it's not cheap as HH says). I love the Sisor and also the stripes on the barbels of the .

Re: Finally mustered enough courage to pull the trigger
Here’s a tip: if you join the Ray Society (the folks who publish this), you get a sizable members’ discount if you purchase it through their website. The membership to the society is relatively cheap and the discount more than offsets it.

Re: Finally mustered enough courage to pull the trigger
I find these online for approximately £150.00 on https://www.nhbs.com & Book Depository etc. Are these the junk 1972 editions or the higher quality version you are enjoying?
What is the website for the Ray Society? Cost of joining and amount of members discount ?
Would like to add this to my book collection.
Thank you

The Ray Society’s website is at https://www.raysociety.org.uk/
This is a completely new reprint that is far superior to the Junk reprint (which I also have).
Membership is £10 per year. I cannot remember the members’ discount (I think it was at least 20%), but the Society has lowered the price of the book to £80 for members, with very reasonable international priority shipping rates (£9 to Singapore!).

Re: Finally mustered enough courage to pull the trigger
This book arrived for me via the museum at the same time that I received Francis Hamilton's Gangetic Fishes in Colour, though I have no idea why it was sent to me (I do not recall contributing to it in any way). Oh well, no point looking at a gift horse in the mouth.

I do not think the book is available for sale anywhere. However, there are electronic downloads of the different components that make up this book (I think) available at: - Taratron
