Paleatus swimming weirdly, IBS issue ?
Paleatus swimming weirdly, IBS issue ?
Hello
One of my acquaintance recently - a week ago - got 3 C. paleatus of which one swims weirdly :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNXbG2P0KHw
From what I know :
Nitrogen cycle done
Nitrates: 18 mg/l
Nitrite: 0
Ammonia: 0
GH: 7
KH: 6
PH: 7.2
Temp.25Β°C
No water softener
Tankmates : Snails, Amano shrimps, C. aenus + paleatus, Lemon tetra, Cardinal tetra, a pair of Pearl gouramis.
Tanks is 150 Long x 45 wide x 54 heigh
Water changes every 10 days with RO water and Volvic mineral water.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It eats well.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I told him that as Cories are scaleless they are more sensible to any pollution than scaled fishes.
He thinks of swimbaddler issue. Do Cories have swimbaddler ? I'm not sure of that.
Could it be a constipation that annoys/prevents intestinal breathing ?
Internal parasites ?
Any help will be appreciated

Re: Paleatus swimming weirdly, IBS issue ?
Seems like it has something wrong with its swim bladder, also if I am seeing correctly looks like the fish in question also has a deformation on its spine, I don't know if that adds onto its swim bladder issue.
Sadly I don't think there is much to be done in this situation.

Yeah I have to agree. The spine does look deformed and I doubt you can do anything to make this fish well.

Re: Paleatus swimming weirdly, IBS issue ?
So you think of a swimbaddler issue ? I've read many times that Cories don't carry swimbaddler ! So, swim bladder or not ?Kryptic wrote: 02 Aug 2021, 15:46 Seems like it has something wrong with its swim bladder, also if I am seeing correctly looks like the fish in question also has a deformation on its spine, I don't know if that adds onto its swim bladder issue.

Re: Paleatus swimming weirdly, IBS issue ?
As far as I am aware Corydoras do have a swim bladder. And the deformation of the spine is caused either by a mutation or by an injury that has healed over time but has then left a kink on the spine.

It looks like there is a dissent on Corydoras swimbaddler ! Some say Cories have a swimbaddler, others say Cories have no swimbaddler !
I'd almost want to create a poll
