Corydoras sp.?
Corydoras sp.?
Hi folks,
Got this contaminant from a Brazil shipment. Any idea what this fella might be? It's entirely black and white in coloration and looks like something from the elegans group.
Thanks!

Hi Benny!
Do you know what region of brazil exactly.
Could have benn caught close to the Surinam border or even in Surinam and then sold and shipped from Brazil...
It is not because it was shipped from Brazil that it means that it was caught there...
Just my 2 cents
Cheers

Hi,
Benny, what species was it imported with?
However, comparing the picture to the drawing in Nijssens Surinam Corydoras revision, there are some differences.
The Corydoras elegans group is a large and confusing Corydoras group which contains far more species than currently recognized. Imo its currently not possible to determine that species, if its even described. Its not C. elegans, not C. pestai, not C. bilineatus and not C. napoensis (at least not the species we call C. napoensis in the aquarium trade) and probably not C. nanus, although it resembles that species most (imo). I'd call it C. cf. nanus for now (or C. cf elegans like Ian suggested).
Btw: Are there commercial exports from Surinam?

You are right there Yann, there are even some species, like C. baderi , that are known from Surinam and Brazil. Interestingly, apart from the type locality, the Gran Rio (Surinam river system), C. nanus was also found in the Oelemarie river, Marowijne system close to the brazil border. Oelemarie river is also the type locality of C. oelemariensis , which is now a synonym of C. baderi , which was described from.... Brazil.Do you know what region of brazil exactly.
