Rhyacoglanis paranensis pics 2 and 3 don't belong

Photos 2 and 3 for

Rhyacoglanis paranensis

are mis-ID'd. I just posted an actual photo of the species from the original publication. Nothing similar at all. Maybe a

Pseudopimelodus

type? IDK.

I'll do some digging, on the face of it, came from the Parana basin, but that may be wrong. Pretty certain the genus is correct.

OK, so I've got a better picture of the fish coming. Then we can see the tail fin properly - the eyes looked too big for Pseudopielodidae for me - but I see now this is not characteristic.

Glad you can get more pics. What stands out to me, even with forced perspective of the face shot, is that snout looks wrong relative to eyes, and from the overhead shot, I'm looking at the small grain of the pectoral spine serrations - much smaller than those of the real R. paranensis.

Yeah agreed at a species level, I am trying to check the genus is right (or not).

To me, the head on the mystery fish looks just too wide and flat compared to the other photo, and to that of the other species with photos.

I don't know, but it's about a "light cheek" and the stripe on the caudal connection to the stripe around the caudal peduncle for me.

OK, so I have another picture and I can see there is no joined in the dark verticle stripe on the caudal and the one around the caudal peduncle. So, good call on the ID, given where it's from however, this then makes

Pseudopimelodus mangurus

a strong candidate. I've asked @The.Dark.One / Steve for his view as I see from FB he had helpfully queried the ID.

Mangurus was my guess too.
