The ultimate surviror-Clarias pachynema?

Yesterday my Clarias pachynema jumped out of tank. It had beenon the pillow next to aquarium approximately 3½-8 hours. Clarias had dried badly and looked dead(according to my wife who rang to my job and told about it). All i could inform was to try to take it in some bucket(she wouldn`t touch it even with a stick) and to take it to garbage. Next phonecall arrived with a shaking voice which said "it isstill alive!". I told throw it back to maintank.

It looked shabby and i am amazed that it is still alive yet knowing their ability to survive bad conditions.I haven`t placed it to quarantine tank and i´m watching how`s its doing and move it and medicate if neccessary. It moves as little as possible and breaths little faster than usual. There are large areas of ripped skin and some bloody marks in its fins. I wonder are the gills damaged permanent and how about inner organs? It has humplike area grown on its back just before backfin. There should be breathing organs? Have they swollen? Fortunately other catfishes haven`t bothered it yet. What are the chances to survive?

Keep a close eye on the fish for ich. I have saved several suicide jumpers (mainly loricariids) and they often come down with mild ick afterwards. I believe that it is in part because they lose so much protective body slime.
I can actually beat 3 to 8 hours, but not with a fish. We had a Red Belly Newt escape a 55 gallon tank. Three MONTHS later my wife found him under the phone book. He was wrapped in my wife's hair and carpet fuzz but with a little care (mainly several hours of soaking in Stress Coat) he bounced back and lived several more years.

R.I.P. -It didn`t get ich or fungus but maybe it had dried too much. Its skin seem to crack open from everypart. Looked like erosion on skin. There were no way to heal from those wounds. I put end to its misery.

Sorry to hear about that Mika, its a great shame.

Had the same thing happen to me about 12 years ago with a clarias and it was reduced to a sausage like stub. It didnt eat or swim for 4 weeks and eventually ii put it out of its mysery only to be informed afterwards that it would probably have survived.
I have read a report on the net somewhere of a c batrachus that was left without food for seven months with only a slight loss of weight and no signs of illness having occured due to its starvation.
I may have the link somewhere, maybe on my site ill try to find it.
