"Black Stripe Catfish" - Any ideas?

Post by Cheese Specialist »

Hello,

I got 2 of these guys from my lfs today. They called them "Black Stripe Catfish", have you heard of this catfish?

I have looked through the cat-eLog and the best match I have found is Corydoras schwartzi, but there is no information on them, it does look very like them though. I will describe them to you as best I can. I have a photo but no way of upoading it.

I have this question, with the photo at another forum. One that I can upload onto!! lol It's at http://kokosgoldfish.com/forum/index.ph ... =17&t=7211

Size: 2" (and quite fat), certainly my largest corys

Colouration: Black and white, emeraldy gills - bold black, diagonal stripe through the eye and then black 'squiggles' horizontal along the white body. The dorsal fin is very erect with a less translucent vertical spike. There is no black on the dorsal fin.

Other info: The petshop has a sign that these fish were only available for a short time only and were £5 each.

I really like these little fellas and they look quite at home with my albinos, peppereds and julii. I would just like to know a bit about them.

Thank you. :)

I have two C. Schwartziis and they look just like yours! Mine are also about 2" and are quite chubby. They have the funniest, stoic little personalities. They are very nice fish!

Here is a picture of my Schwartziis being goofy. They like to hang out in that corner of the tank a lot and one day I came home and they were doing that. They looked reflective, so I thought I would take a picture! (I just noticed that my avatar is also a picture of one of my Schwartziis.)

How is Brucilla? What's the word? :D

Brucilla's grand, thanks!!

Not sure on the male/female front still as he/she doesn't have the spikes on the tail to be male or the fat belly to be female! I am saying he for now as his head is very big! I have just moved him into my 70UK/84US gallon tank so I haven't seen him much but I know where he lives. Wha ha ha!!

You're corys are very nice. Is it just the photo or do they have a lighter stripe beside the black one?

Hmmm...I don't think it's another actual stripe. I just looked at some other pictures and I think it's just that instead of their grey body having a bluish sheen in the light on their back, it's a bronzish area on their head.

Yep... They look almost exactly like my C. schwartzi, too! :)

Q: How tall is Cartman in real life?

A: Well, Cartman doesn't exist in real life, but if he did he'd be two feet tall.
