Spectracanthicus zuanoni (L354) spawned!

Post by jac »

So, it finally happened :d

Two days later I found they had spawned but it was a bit of a mess...

I took the eggs in the early morning and then rushed off to work. Later that day I cleaned up the egg mass and found there were still some good and fertile eggs.

Two days ago I found them trapping again :d Never saw any signs of breeding behavior prior to trapping. It was a complete surprise!!

The next day I found the eggs at the back of the cave.

Fingers crossed!!

Great job Jac, still kicking myself for missing out on a group of these. My Leporacanthicus have been trapping intermittently for close to 2 weeks and still no spawn. So very impressive from your fish, keep us updated.

It has been a while and I noticed I forgot to update on the fry. So here goes :d
They are doing great. Slow growing species. The group hasn't spawned since.

In this video there are a few more interesting F1's. Ancistrus sp. L255 and Parancistrus nudiventris :icon-wink:

Last week the pair spawned again :d

I left the eggs with the male, who did a good job! By day 4 he lost a few of the eggs so I collected them and put them safe in a frying.

On day 5 he decided he had enough and kicked the rest of them out. They started hatching later that day and into the next morning. All are doing very well :-BD
