Post by MichaelItelf »

Why are there no women is this biz? I have seen people behind the counter and parts getters but no techs... Why not?

If you're referring to women in the fish hobby, I'd beg to differ. They may not represent 50% of the fish hobby, but there are lots of women who keep fish, breed fish and sell fish. You just need to notice them. ;-)

That said, every hobby is always looking to inspire young folks to join. Anything we can do to encourage teenagers and young adults (both female and male alike) to get hooked on fish keeping (potentially establishing them to become leaders of the future) is good.

Some fish clubs, including my own, actively provide opportunities for youth to get involved – for example, being club speakers, entering breeding challenges.

If you have more ideas, please share.

Cheers, Eric

My fish club is the Danbury Area Aquarium Society (DAAS). We are in the middle of a program working with a local 4-H Club. We set up 10 kids with compete 10 gal set-ups including cycled filters. Parents are included. The kids have meetings and get assignments and are having a ball. Later this month they have their big fair and our fish kids will have a display with 10 5.5 gal tanks showing off fish of the world and a bigger planted display tank.

I am sure the club would not object to my linking you to the newsletter for the 2nf quarter which has a report on things. The report on how this starts on page 6 http://northeastcouncil.org/sites/defau ... 2q18_0.pdf

From what I heard at the last meeting was the kids were having a ball and some of the parents seem to have developed an interest. the kids get to keep everything. My part was to get all the Poret cubes cycled in advance.

Shameless plug: Anybody in the area of Danbury. CT. is welcome to attend a monthly meeting. And we do accept new members. :d
