Hypancistrus from Columbia

We got a bag of

Hypancistrus debilittera

from Columbia and some of them stand out with more of a barred pattern instead of the thinner lines and overall darker colour of the

Hypancistrus debilittera

.

Hi catfishchaos,

I can't confirm that your fish are or are not debilittera, but younger fish have more of a barred pattern and more light colored areas than the adults.

Hopefully someone else can confirm ID.

Good afternoon they look like L129's to me. I have the same ones. What size are they?

You raise a good point Eric but one of the different looking ones is the same size as one of the L129 although the majority of them are on the smaller side. I also looked at some soawning report photos for the L129 and the young ones seem to have finer white lines than these guys do.

The largest is probably 3 inches TL but nost pur closer to 2.5 and the smallest are closer to 1.5.

The last photo is definetly a L129 the middle photo probably as well but the first looks quite different from those two.

the first pictures remind me a lot of L 474, one of the many phenotypes of Hypancistrus debilittera. They are from Río Cinaruco in Venezuela and fishes from there are being exported in higher quantities during the last three to four years.

Thanks Daniel, the photos in the link look pretty spot on! Whatever they are I’ll probably be taking a handful home sooner or later, I think they’re stunning!
