Awesome! Thank you so much...
Being new here, am I best to just keep replying with each fish? Or start a new thread?
I've got a few more I need help with (I just got given a ton of L numbers and Im trying to ID so I can feed correctly and setup a nice little home to breed them (not that i've ever bred fish before)

Hi AussieSam,
I think the fish in your photos could be L397, but it looks too yellow to be L397. What about as a possibility?
Cheers, Eric

Eric might be on spot there. Guess I was off. The face pattern seems to fit better as well.

The closest fish on the list of L numbers you have is . I don't know how you tell if your fish is this or a Panaqolus. Maybe teeth?

Eric should be right there again. Looks like Peckoltia to me. Too bad they all look alike when young
This fish needs some tender love and care asap. He is in bad condition. Hope he can recover.

Re: Newbie with no idea on what this is...
When I got them the tanks they were in were the worst ive seen.. Nearly completely Black. (attached a photo of the cleanest of the 5 tanks I found... they all maxxed out my test kit at 200ppm Nitrate.. so god knows what the actual amount was)
Found plenty of skeletons in the substrate. many dead fish.. So i've saved as many as I can. Its taken me over a month to aclimate them to a normal healthy tank. But being a beginner, Im way over my head. I figure IDing should be a high priority in order to figure out diet etc.

Re: Newbie with no idea on what this is...
For sure you have at least one Panaqolus there, and the other looks like a Peckoltia. Their diets will be similar although not exactly the same. If you offer them a mixed diet, they should be fine together.AussieSam wrote: 24 Jan 2018, 10:59But being a beginner, Im way over my head. For these fish, I'd feed them algae wafers, worm sticks or shrimp pellets, slices of raw sweet potato, boiled shrimp or clams (sparingly, don't feed them too much meat at a time), Spirulina flakes, and live black worms. Also, keep wood in the tank. Panaqolus eat a lot of wood. The Peckoltia may take a little.
Good luck,
Eric

I was thinking L398, looks like L397 but L398s are more yellow.

Re: Newbie with no idea on what this is...
Yes I thought the same. But I think it's not (L398) because the number of lines on the face of this fish appear to be too numerous, compared to all the photos I've seen of P. tankei. Do you know if mature P. tankei have such numerous facial lines?
Cheers, Eric

It is likely, that it is the same species as the first fish you posted in this thread, sam. Maybe provide a picture with both of them.

Re: Newbie with no idea on what this is...
That would be three Panaqolus(likely L002), one Peckoltia(likely L80) and one Hypancistrus (likely L129 / L340).
