Big L140 spawn!

Post by gulogulo »

Hello, just wanted to share my recent spawn for the record.

I recently pulled the offspring from the 2nd successful spawn of my L140 pair. The first viable spawn (there was a previous batch of mostly unfertilized and non surviving eggs) yielded 17 fry all of which are still doing well 2 months later. Since other breeding reports listed 15- 20 or so I figured that was what I would get from subsequent spawns. I pulled out 48 fry from the cave with dad yesterday! :-O :d So, these fish can apparently have much larger spawns than 15-20. There is only one female and all the fry are the same size so it was definitely only one clutch. For me the spawning trigger has been moving these fish to a new tank. Every move within my fish room has yielded a clutch of eggs, good thing I have lots of tanks!

If anyone is looking for some L140s I have some available now and will be at Catfish Cataclysm in Madison in September- Look for MadTown Aquaculture.

Congrats!

I have similiar spawn sizes from L134, too. Seems to be in line with other Peckoltia.
