Vulture/bolt/juruense/jaguar questions
Vulture/bolt/juruense/jaguar questions
Im currently planning to set up a 96x30 or 36 (width)x24 cat tank and wanted to hear what you guys thought of the following cats being kept together.
Vulture, bolt, juruense and jaguar cats. I know the jags would probably be too small long term but want to hear your thoughts anyway. The others are all between 4 and 5 inches while the jags im able to obtain are in the 6 inch range.
So long term could the bolt/vulture/juruense combo work ? Would the bolt stay too small ? Would the juruense get out competed too badly at feeding time ?
I would be using a 150 gal (72x18) as a grow out.

Hey mate, thanks for the poke. We have been discussing this scenario a lot on MFK, about 50 pages worth now haha. The OP is a thorough, persistent, and diligent homework doer, quite commendably.
So far he's got nothing from PCF, as could have been expected because the crowd here is different-minded obviously, much more academic, more purist, less oriented to large-growing wet pets and the combinations thereof.

What fishes are we talking about? I can read "vulture" but please do provide me with an understandeble name.
This is an international forum, and most of us don't know any USA nicknames. We do, however, know how to find information regarding an unknown Latin name

Re: Vulture/bolt/juruense/jaguar questions
I know some about the trachy trachy and quite a bit about jaguars (assuming the L. ori's ), but nothing about the other 3 other than they are longer slender fish (or atleast juru's are)

Re: Vulture/bolt/juruense/jaguar questions
Thank you for that, Eric
Looking at the species profiles, the largest one is Brachyplatystoma juruense, growing to 60 cm, or 2 feet.
Now this fish might need time to grow out, but the do seem to be fast moving fish, for which the common formula 4L* 2L * 2L might not be suitable.
Howeve,r filling 1.5 feet for this fish, in this formula, one would need at the very least a 6 footer, being 3 feet from front to back.
The 96 * 36 in the initial post was exactly that size - but I wonder whether the formula would suffice

Re: Vulture/bolt/juruense/jaguar questions
the vulture can occasionally turn nasty & take chunks out of tankmates when least expected. Bolt & Jury both relatively docile in a well fed captive environment. Jags ultimately too small.
Great tank size proposed & i'd suggest (long term) removal of all except the vulture & get a group of these.
