Corydoras Sterbai with unusual pattern!

Post by AZCatfish »

Just got this guy at the LFS today. Sold as a C. Sterbai. Is this a hybrid or just an unusual pattern? Thanks!

Wow, never seen anything like that. This fish looks small. What size is it?

Cheers, Eric

He's less than an inch long but really feisty! I got him and his buddy but his buddy has typical patterning. My wife has named him Oliver because of the O on his side. Oliver is a really beautiful little fish. Sort of looks like he has Korean writing on his side! Here is a better pic.

A fish's pattern will often change with age. Here are 64 different pictures of sterbai on a Japanese cory site :) http://www.nettaigyo.com/corydoras/ency ... erbai.html

This is because they are still too young.
I breed sterbai and all of my young sterbai look like yours. There is nothing to worry. The pattern will change when they get older and bigger.

I was hoping that he would stay that way because its a cool pattern. I went back to the LFS and bought the other 3. So now I have all 5 babies that were in the tank. It bothered me to separate them. "Reunited, and it feels so good.........."

I’ve got about 35 Sterbai...... and yes you can have too many. All they do is eat and poop. And poop.

I thought you might want to see Oliver all growed up and resting on his favorite rock bed! And his pattern did change. He also has a nice warm light honey brown coloration that the other Sterbai don't have. And he likes to elevate when feeding while the other Sterbai stay close to the bottom. He really is a special little guy!
