Brazil - Peckoltia ?????
Hi, bought as "cascudo cara de pão" (bread-face pleco), this pleco usually is panqolus l002. But as I glaze it I know it was a peckoltia, but can't ID which.
Probally came from barcelos region. I'm thinking about l015, 211 or 208.
Thanks!

Re: Brazil - Peckoltia ?????
Nice pleco for sure. To get a better ID on him it would be better to have some pictures in the water from the side and from above would be best..... that being said he does remind me a lot of L211..

Sorry, I'd think to be able to shoot them, but they are very quick, also stays in the dark places (caves, under the leaf etc), I got this one from the bag, in the aclimation process.

Re: Brazil - Peckoltia ?????
It is really a peckoltia? I think looks like a panaqolus sometimes. Also, l211 came from rondonia state, and is very very rare fishs from that place in the market. I'd pay about 8 dollars each, very good price. Thikin bout buuy 5 more, for breeding project while the l114 still grow...
Can anyone help ID?

Re: Brazil - Peckoltia ?????
Hi,
its a Peckoltia for sure, and belongs to the P. vittata -complex.
But its none of the mentioned L-Numbers, possibly its a semiadult L 475, which are being imported more frequently now in comparison to the past years. If you still have the chance to get some specimens from the same shipment, get them, cause you might not have the chance again. Also pictures of the others would be of interest to see the variation.

I'm from Brazil, and I don't remember to see this pleco anywhere else but this time, I'm trying to track the seller, but with no successAcanthicus wrote:Hi,

The pictures above is of the 2 specimens I got.
So, I don't quite understand one thing, it's a peckoltia, but might me a hypanscistrus (l475)? Or they belong to the same complex?
My fishes are always complicated to ID, I got a couple of undentified Dicrossus here, now these plecos :/
More pics will help? I'm trying to shoot them day by day, but it's hard, they are very fast and don't hold still in any visible places.
Thanks a lot in this ID, I hope we can get a species/number soon.
Regards

Re: Brazil - Peckoltia ?????
To me, that is a Peckoltia for sure.... and now that I can see it in the water and from the side it looks like a L15 to me, or a very similar Peckoltia. L211 is slightly higher bodied than this fish looks to be. I have some L211's that I have been breeding for years now..... so they aren't impossible to get.

That's kind of messy I always do with l numbers.Acanthicus wrote:Ups, sorry, I meant L477 of course, which is a Peckoltia.
So, your guess is l477 vs l015 from stuby.
Right, it's closer from l015, but I'm not sure if really is it. Also the colors are beggining to get more orange, like l477. Someone can send me an ID key paper? In the other view, i saw a website sellin l015, what means that in some moment came a lot of these, but this websites don't really id them correctally.
I can't found any, just found from another peckoltia complex, ho does not fits my plecos.
Man, trying to guess how I pay only 8 dolars. My pleco dealer (prtically the only dealer beside the importer/exporter) sells me for 9 dollar each, the same price as l114 (I'm getting 3 more next weekend). This ones I bought in a store, so, the store was (at least) the third place to get the fish, and the fish don't came from this dealer or another importer. I'm breeding some hard to find tetras (and some commons to), and beggining to breed plecos, thats why I'm so interessed in ID this beauties. In a few times I pretend to export for you guys, who knows the prices can drop.Fundulopanchax76 wrote:Hi Pedraz ! You are happy to buy that beauty only for 8 dollars ! Re: Brazil - Peckoltia ?????
Without a collection point it is hard to be sure but L477 is possible by the looks of them ...... L477 is a larger fish than L15's are and when they get older/bigger they will be easier to tell apart from L15. I hate to say it but only time will tell for sure in that case...Acanthicus wrote:Ups, sorry, I meant L477 of course, which is a Peckoltia.
Regardless of what they are... if you are happy with them that is all that matters. You may have to wait a year to get a "positive" ID... younger plecs often look like another different one.... sometimes time is the only way to be sure.

Thanks mate!
Yeah, I had forget that, plecos change with age... One of mines is a male, after maturity the colors still changes? The more orange one is a male, got the odontodes, and the patterns r more solid.
I'm trying like hell to know they collection place, but it's hard, still trying to connect to the seller. But, I guess it came from Para state, Xingu river and sorrounds. Since last 2 years, there a flood of xingu plecos all over.
I got a plenty of patient for them, buy 2 more today, pleco breeding project going on for the future. Got this wonderful tiger ones, and 4 l114 for future. Let's see what happens, for know got the dicrossus and cardinals spawning every week, beautiful to see .
Thanks a lot for answer my question guys, hope soon you see more plecos o'mine and my project of pleco heaven tank finish.
Regards
