Pterygoplichthys scrophus??
Pterygoplichthys scrophus ? Has 11 dorsal rays, horizontal ridging, larger then normal nasal flutes.... Pictured here with some gold spots
Was purchased as a chocolate pleco.

Agree. looks like a dark P. pardalis from here. scophus doesn't have the 'scribble' markings.

I have just read on the description page this note about the stomach patterns
"This species is most likely to be confused with P. disjunctivus. The pattern on the abdomen is the most useful external key: P. pardalis has a spotted pattern, where P. disjunctivus has a vermiculated pattern. For more info see: Zootaxa 1109: 57?68 (2006)"
This fish does not have spots on its belly but squiggles?
