Please help me identify my new pleco

Post by brd9214 »

Hi all-

First time poster here. I just picked up a new pleco and the shop I bought it from said it was a l051 false leopard pleco, or a chocolate zebra pleco. He wasn't sure. I was hoping y'all could help me identify my new fish? Thank you.

Agree with jools looks like juvenile L199. Saying that about a thousand juvenile plecos look almost exactly the same.

Thanks y'all. I picked up frozen brine shrimp and spirulina tabs. You think he'll enjoy that?

Also, any advice to get him out from behind the filter?

yes I think he most likely will :)

If he's not doing any harm behind the filter, let him be, shell find his own cave after awhile. Try adding more rocks/wood/plants etc so he can find a cave that's his own.

I had to move some stuff around to darken up the cave i have and he likes it. Also, tying some cucumber to the driftwood log leaning up against his cave got him out from behind the filter real quick. I definitely need to add more live plants though. Any leafy shady live plants you would recommend?

Good old amazon swords are usually a safe bet. My plecs love going upside down on their leaves, though one or two of the leaves have had their top layer skimmed. Based on other tank mates I can't find a real culprit but I would suspect a hungry pleco will graze off live plant material.
