Re: Hypancistrus Inspector eggs in macro
Amazing photos, Jac. Never mind, though, more significantly, also congratulations on the new inspector eggs!
Are the eggs still with Dad in the cave, or do you have them in a tumbler/incubator?
Cheers, Eric

Thanks Eric. I took the eggs because I don't quite trust this male with the eggs..bekateen wrote:Amazing photos, Jac. Never mind, though, more significantly, also congratulations on the new inspector eggs!

I think it's a macro lens add-on for an iPhone 6? It really does take great pics, but to take good pics of eggs, you need to be a good breeder!

Re: Hypancistrus Inspector eggs in macro
Andrew, I don't know if you'll find these at your local store. I just ordered one yesterday and I had to buy it online; there were no local sources I could locate.
Try Googling "iPhone camera macro lens" (no quotation marks needed). You should find them for sale around $5-9 USD, many with free shipping.
This is what I bought: http://www.gearbest.com/mount-holder/pp_205500.html. It's not the same model jac has (at least I don't think so), but it's pretty close.
Cheers

Re: Hypancistrus Inspector eggs in macro
Such nice photos. It never ceases to amaze me when I see how complex and detailed even little embryos and hatchling fry can be. Life is splendid.
How many fry do you have? And now that you have these baby inspectors, does it mean my L201 will spawn soon?
Cheers, Eric

How old are your L201? I have had these years ago. They tarted to spawn at about 18 months and 6cm in lenght. So they can be young breeders if you take care of them. I think you'll have no problems at all with your L201

Wonderful! What a bounty!jac wrote:I have about 45 at the moment
Were yours 6cm SL or TL? My L201 range in size from 55-60mm SL, and there are obvious males and females in the group, based on odontodes and body shape: ID help, please. What did I buy - L201, contradens, or other?. I believe they are wild caught so I don't know their age. I've had my L201 for only one month now; they are just out of quarantine. Obviously they haven't had much time to get into condition so I don't expect them to spawn any time soon; however they were in pretty good shape the day I bought them, considering they were fresh from the wholesaler.jac wrote:How old are your L201? One male already likes to hang out in a real cave, but most of the time, either three or all four of them will hang out in that weird clay rock/cave structure I made... Sometimes two to one cave, but I don't think for spawning reasons; I think when they get startled they just swim to whatever hole they can get into, even if it is already occupied. These are really shallow holes, but the fish seem to prefer to hide these holes, rather than in longer (traditional) cave structures or under wood. Silly plecos!

I love these photos, jac. I'm still waiting for my macro lens to arrive so I can get better pics of my maccus, and now my C. diphyes. Hopefully soon.

Re: Hypancistrus Inspector eggs in macro
Now almost 2 weeks old and it's time to start eating some foods. I will start feeding them from tonight. Their yolk sacks are almost dissolved and the little fish are complete in formation. Now all they have to do is grow into nice adults
