Hoplosternum with the wind?

Post by clothahump »

Just recently my 10 year old Hoplosternum Littorale has been producing a lot of gas, is this normal?
Could it be that it is just getting a good diet as in Humans?

I should think at least 30 years, does seem strange that it has only recently started doing this.

Well. . Don´t old people have a lot more gas, too? My grandpa says, he´s having more the older he gets.. Perhaps it´s the same with catfish. Something about the digestion, perhaps.

I think it's just air which the fish has swallowed and passed to the hind-gut. My male H. littorale sometimes 'drinks' air from an airstone and farts it back out.

So does my crayfish. . Perhaps he thinks he´s an airstone  Well, seriously; I think it´s like humans, mammals etc.. When air goes in - when breathing - air goes out. . simple.

... if you still wonder why don't you move this post to right discussion about your type of catfish ... maybe more interest would be found there ....I'm sure only a few people skim through "Speak Easy". Secondly, maybe someone that has your type of fish will understand the answer best too.
