I've seen this species recently. Do you know where it was imported from?

Why on earth would there even be the mention of hybridisation?

I mentioned hybrid because chinafishboy didn't know anything about it and until jackson827 mentioned it is from Peru nothing was know. chinafishboy also did not say it was a newly discovered fish. Regardless of what one may feel about hybrids the facts are that they are more and more a part of the hobby. So it was just a question.

That appears to be a wide generalisation and I do not think its applicable to wild caught fishes. I think we too ready shout "hybrid" when actually all we are looking at is an unidentified species especially when there is zero evidence at all of species level hybridisation in that genus.

It definitely is not applicable to wild caught. Like I said he did not say it was unidentified nor did he say it was wild caught. Maybe I missed something in his wording.

They are very similar to Pseudohemiodon apithano: they can change color!
And both black and brown morph are found.

The original post simply asked, "What is it?" Like it or not, hybrids are a part of our hobby these days. So the first responses asking questions like: "Hybrid?" and "Origin?" made sense.

As for my own personal opinion: I have no clue. lol Good luck to those wiser than I.

It isn't. Marbled Pseudohemiodon has curvy head but these new ones' heads are triangular.
Marbled one was discovered for more than 5 years . :d

The head shape is quite variable on the marbled sp. and they're rarely seen at the size of this new shipment. However, I think the locality is different, so this looks like a new thing I agree.

@Sojapat, at Pier Aquatics has imported some of these in the last week or so, perhaps we will get some pictures soon for a new species entry...

I think they have decided that it is an undescribed Pseudohemiodon sp.
