Post by janalinda »

Hi group,

I am a graduate student from Federal University of Pará, and I am performing a research to know the commercial chain of six ornamental species collected in Xingu River, Pará, Brazil. The research aims to know the price ans destination and prices of these animais untl the final consumer. May you tell me the values practiced by the local commerce, and their destinations (origin and final destination)? These are the species I would like to have information:

Baryancistrus xanthellus (Acari amarelinho (L177, L18, L81)) - Price:_____?
Scobinancistrus aureatus (Acari picoa ouro (L14)) - Price:_____?
Hypancistrus Sp (Acari Pão (L66)) - Price:_____?
Peckoltia vittata (Acari tigre de listra (L15)) - Price:__?___
Spectracanthicus punctatissimus (Acari bola azul (L30)) - Price:_____?
Spectracanthicus zuanoni (Acari bola branca (L20)) - Price:_____?

I appreciate the attention,
Sincerely,

Keep in mind that price can vary significantly depending on the retailer. A direct importer selling through the internet will be lower in price generally than a retail store. I will provide two prices for those I know of. The first would be an internet retailer (direct importer) and the second would be a retail (brick and mortar) store. All prices in U.S. dollars.

B. xanthellus $25 internet, $50 retailer (juvenile 2-3" SL)
S. aureatus $100 internet, $150-$200 retailer (subadult 6"SL)
L66 $20 internet, $50 retailer (juvenile 2" SL) These are commonly available captive raised.
P. vittata $20 internet, $30 retailer, subadults to adults 2.5-3" Also commonly available captive raised
L30 $20 internet, $30 retailer, Can't say I have ever seen this one anywhere but internet.
L20 $25 internet, $40 retailer. This one I actually have and $25 is what I paid for 2" imported fish.

Hope this helps.

This would all be USA.

I got some prices from Freshwater Exotics website which is a good reference for an internet retailer. Tedsfishroom, and Tangledupincichlids are also good ones to use for reference.

Brick and mortar stores often don't have price lists online.

Wet Spot Tropical Fish (http://www.wetspottropicalfish.com/index.php/fish, then scroll down to "LORICARIIDS") is a major seller on the West Coast of the USA, both as a internet retailer and as a walk-in-the-front-door retail store. Their prices online and in-store are typically similar, although sometimes slightly cheaper online.

Im in the UK.
I have seen Baryancistrus xanthellus going for £30.00 for a 6cm specimen a common price mark here in the uk. A popular fish to purchase also, but very difficult to suceed with them. A regular at this establishment. Found frequently elsewhere about the same price.
I have seen Scobiancistrus Auratus, from a different supplier, again a regular going at £45.00 for a 6-8cm specimen. I've seen larger ones go for even more elsewhere
I have seen Peckoltia vittata go for 30.00 elsewhere for a four cm specimen.

The above I've found at 3 LFS in my area.

In order for me to source fish sometimes, I put in 'tropical fish for sale uk online' into my search engine I've probably seen all of them supplied at some point or other. Some can only be collected in person also. Doing this may give you some further info, the prices obviously vary between suppliers. Some suppliers are less expensive, obviously the more expensive, I'd like to think the healthier the fish are likely to be.
Thanks Teresa
