Which Auchenipterids are being kept by PC members?

The inhabitants are going to be barbs (Sahyadria denisonii and Dawkinsia filamentosa), combined with Awaous gobies.

I would suggest avoiding the Awaous and going for smaller gobies as I have seen Awaous reach over 10 inches TL. Combined with a predatory instinct, this would pose a real danger to your barbs. Another worry (especially if you are looking at an Asian species) would be if they turn out to be Glossogobius giuris instead.

They seem pretty harmless diggers imho.

Hey Marc, this does look like an Awaous sp..I have only kept Indian species so I don't know if these gobies will 'behave' or what size they will grow to. If you are interested in gobies, I would also suggest you go in for a Sicyopterus sp. or Schismatogobius ampluvinculus which I am told are available on a regular basis these days.

That's correct, you are well informed .....I love those kinda catfish. I'll consider to also buy the taeniatus.

I'm really happy for my former fishes that they are all going to live at your place. Given what you've done to the Trachelyopterus spec. 3, I doubt that there would have been a better place in The Netherlands they could have moved to.
I was hoping for good homes and now they are all going to one good home. That's a relief!

Nope. I've been downsizing quite a bit in the past few years and I currently own one tank. All the auchenipterids lived in there, obviously -)
As I desperately wanted to keep some visible fishes for a change, I combined them with cyprinids, which turned out to be a bad idea as the cyprinids outcompeted the catfishes wrt food. That made the decision to stop keeping the auchenipterids easier, although it remained a tough decision.

I asked because the Spinipterus are too small to be kept with T. sp. 3 - but I shouldn't have asked because you must undoubtedly have figured that out yourself. They used to live in the same tank however, but then the T sp. 3 were still a lot smaller.

Anyway, enjoy them and if you have any questions about the fishes, don't hesitate to ask.

Ok, thx for the answer.....I wanted to know because I'm gonna combine some species in a large tank.....probaly the spiniterus with the punctatus or something like that. I put the thrachelyopterus sp 3 in a seperate tank because a trachelyopterus with a size of 25 cm's has a big mouth...... The group is in a 1.60 x 60 x 50 tank of their own.
Do you know the sexes of the different species ??

As you can see this individual seems to have ich (as do all the others I have seen) any tips for treating it? only other fish in tank are

Peckoltia compta

and a few tetras species but none are showing signs yet, I installed a UV sterilizer but I know I need meds to save the little centromochlus. Ich x and api medications are most readily available to me.

Thanks Atmichaels, I'll pick some of that up today and keep you all updated. I found that they were not nearly as relaxed as the Amaralia (behaving like rocks) or the Pseudohemiodon (happily scootering on top of the Amaralia) but rather they would bump into the sides of the bucket until I added some driftwood for them to nuzzle into (before I did that some of them where using the amaralia to hide under!

Close but no cigar. Had a female Tatia sp. "II", Marble Tatia, lay eggs within the last day. Unfortunately they are infertile but another female appears to be gravid. A big thanks to Ted Judy for getting these in! They will get there.

Last summer I got inspired by the Dordogne once again, so I'm going to make the tank more open (less wood, some stones, more current). The inhabitants are going to be barbs (Sahyadria denisonii and Dawkinsia filamentosa), combined with Awaous lateristriga gobies. That should give me plenty to see.

After nearly two months I have to say that I'm really pleased with the current set up. Apart from the above mentioned species, I also added Devario pathirana, Stiphodon atropurpureus and Hypeleotris compressa. The only species that was already in the tank with the catfishes, Acantopsis choirorhynchus, is also still around.
75% of the wood has been removed as well as all Java fern and swordplants. Stones and pebbles have been added, as well as some kind of Nymphaea and giant Vallisineria.
Lighting has been changed (different colours) and the water colour is now clear instead of tanned.
As I was unable to find a suitable catfish species, I will leave it like this for the time being. As I said previously, if I want to see catfishes I will have to go to my pond.

Saying goodbye to my beloved Auchenipteridae was indeed hard, but I'm happy for the fishes that they have found a good home. In all honesty I'm also happy for myself, because I have refound my hobby. After all these years of seeing very little to nothing during the day, it's good to see fishes that are apparently unable to disappear, not even when I'm working in the tank. Arjan Kruseman labelled them as "forgiving" and that is exactly what they are. Moreover, they are lively, colourful and hungry!

I'm sorry for the off-topic, but I wanted to make my last PC posting in "my" thread.
