Corys hatching

Hi all,

Over the last few weeks I have been moving Cory Julii eggs from the main tank to the small tank.

Out of a total of 50+ eggs I have had 5 reach a size I would deem a success. One has been moved to the large tank and is doing well, the other 4 are still too small so are still in the small tank (well other 3 as one is dying ).

What I have noticed with a lot of the newly hatched is, their tails are often short and they swim round in circles .

The last 2 batches of eggs I have noticed that when they start hatching they just sit there on the glass with their tail sticking out of the egg. With the occasional wriggle to try and get free.

The latest egg to start hatching has been sitting there for 6 hours now, still trying to get out of the egg.

How long does it usually take for them to get out?
Is it the hatching process that is damaging/breaking the tail?
Any way to stop it happening to so many?

You may want to try reducing your water hardness. This will make the egg shells softer.

I also just spawned julii a few weeks ago. I use straight RO water in the aquarium which is very soft.

What PH and Hardness parameters do you have with eggs water??
Are you using water from parents tank?

Hi,

All water changes are done with water from the parent tank. So stats are the same (which are as follows)

Ph 7.2 -7.4 (colour looks similar for both)
Hardness 6
TDS 136

you can help the fry out of the egg by sucking them up in a turkey baster and them dumping them back in the tank.
