I'm not sure what this is, the owner thinks it is a bristlenose but that doesn't seem right due to the lack of spots. Any ideas?

There are different color variations of the brown/common bristlenose. I have seen some that are very black and some very brown with white spots.

If I see this correctly, this pleco has some tiny bristles on his nose, indicating it is very probably a bristlenose. Though it may not be the common brown BN. It surely is some kind of bristlenose female or youngster, depending on the size.

Search for Ancistrus rather than bristlenose. You might find some that look similiar to that one.
