L134 Leopard frogs become finicky eaters
L134 Leopard frogs become finicky eaters
I've noticed over the last few weeks my leopard frogs leave most of their food uneaten. They have always been good eaters. I feed them nightly and their diet is varied between earthworm, veggie, spirulina and catfish pellets. Also NLS pellets. They get frozen bloodworms and frozen brine shrimp several times a week. Seems like the next morning many pellets are untouched. Even the frozen foods are not eaten as eagerly as in the past.
I make weekly water changes of 35%. They are kept at 84 F and appear very healthy . I tried not feeding for a few days but they still didn't appear to interested in food.
Any ideas? Thanks.

Males won't each much if they are trying or have trapped females and may be guarding eggs. Is that a possibility?

They are approx 2+ years old. I checked caves and no females trapped and no eggs. This is a big colony of 20. Always ate great. Do they require less food as they mature? Barbie. Can you please offer your expert opinion. Thanks for the responses

I'm sorry, I meant to come back and type you a long response and I got busy (SHINY!).
IMO, they don't require less food as they age. Have you added any new fish with them? or decor? Lack of appetite is a precursor of doom, at my house. How do their fins look? Any film? Any heavy breathing? Squabbling?

No fighting.
No new fish added.
They appear active and healthy.
Actually had two infertile spawns over the last week
I just noticed today one has a white film on the rear portion of the body and tail

Re: L134 Leopard frogs become finicky eaters
If they were mine, I would treat them with proform C, following label instructions. I caused a friend to kill some of his favorite fish last week, so please take care to make sure there is adequate surface disturbance when treating. The good part is that I've treated my own colony of L134 numerous times with it and used up to 150% strength, when dealing with a difficult issue. That film means you need to get on top of things, ASAP. Odds are good you're dealing with Chilodonella.

I would bet that you have had "fighting" and just didn't notice. If you had 2 spawns in the last week the fish may have been chewed up from either a rough courtship or just getting in the way of a more dominate male. Happens to mine from time to time. L134s are not the most gentle when it comes to breeding. The film may be covering the injury. Keep up the water quality and treat the fish, or tank, as Barbie has said.discman wrote:No fighting...Actually had two infertile spawns over the last week
