For Sale: 18 WC L-134 leopard frog plecos
For Sale: 18 WC L-134 leopard frog plecos
I am selling my breeding colony of 18 WC L134 leopard frogs. They are approx. 2 years old and in their prime. I am not sure of the ratio but I have seen some infertile eggs in the tank so these appear ready to start breeding. I feed them a blend of five different pellets, frozen brine shrimp, frozen blood worms and frozen Mysis shrimp. They are thriving but I haven't gotten any fry yet. I know their are males because some have small hairs on the rear of the body and caudal fins. Looking to sell the whole group at once for$1000. Shipping is Southwest cargo same day only or pick up is also welcome. I am located in the St. Louis, MO area.
Video is not great as they hide in the caves but you get the idea.
Questions welcome. PM or text to 636-299-3599. I WILL NOT SPLIT THE GROUP AT THIS TIME so please don't ask.
Thank you.

Are you selling these because you are not getting fertile eggs? I might be able to help with that. I was having the same problem.

I can't get them to spawn. I have had them two years and a couple times saw a few infertile eggs in the tank. I talked to you at the MASI meeting awhile back. Any help would be appreciated.
Any chance I could give you a call sometime?

Mine spawned over and over, eggs were infertile. I made the water softer, warmer, harder, added fish, took fish away. I was so frustrated! I remembered talking to someone about water in the amazon having no calcium and most of the hardness was magnesium and selenium. The eggs LOOKED fertile every time, but were super fragile and he'd eat them on day three, and if I took them, they just melted about then. They did have developing eyes, but something wasn't right.
I added a heaping teaspoon of brightwell reef magnesium supplement to a 40 gallon long after the eggs had been laid an hour or so before and POOF, they all hatched. No problem at all. They haven't spawned again for me to repeat the behavior, and I am planning to do a massive RO water change this next week and add the magnesium again and test, so I can give people a baseline. I'm not positive it was the cure, as the evidence is just pretty anecdotal at the moment, but it surely can't hurt to try. Are you using RO?
You can email me at ancistrus at gmail with your number. I tend to overbook a bit, but I can try to call ;).

This is the exact same issue I was having for a little while with ALL of my plecos. So far my L398 and L333 eggs have been good while dosing magnesium (I have been using Epsom salt instead of a real product).
Hoping it will make a difference in my L020 eggs next time they spawn, fry from them would be exciting.
Are you using anything for the selenium at all?

Re: For Sale: 18 WC L-134 leopard frog plecos
I have kept them in tap water and have been running RO for awhile now. I have raised the temp and made water changes with colder water but no spawns. I feed lots of variety and I think they eat better than I do. I was told by a few they need to be 3 years old to have successful spawns. Is this true.
