Newbie from Maryland (USA)

Hey all!

I just joined and wanted to introduce myself. I have an eclectic variety of tanks and fish but have really fallen in love with a few ancistrus lately. Here is a list of what I am currently keeping:

55 gallon - goldfish that will be returning back to the koi pond very soon and crayfish
50 gallon - Lake Malawi mbuna cichlids and crayfish
29 gallon - red jewel cichlid and crayfish
20 gallon - dwarf mbuna cichlids Pseudotropheus saulosi
13 gallon - Ameca Splendens (hoping to breed)
10 gallon - betta
5 gallon - betta

I also have an 8 inch common pleco, a clown pleco, a long fin albino bn pleco, an albino bn, otos, assorted corys, tetras and apple snails. I hope to one day also add a blue eyed lemon pleco and a green phantom as well.

I'm looking forward to learning more and getting acquainted with as many varieties of catfish as possible. Thanks!

I will work on taking some pics after I do a few water changes tomorrow. Geocaching is an awesome outdoor activity that combines land navigation and treasure hunting. If you have a smart phone you can download an app that will allow you to find the caches. People hide them and then based on latitude and longitude other people find them. https://www.geocaching.com/

I absolutely love their names! The crays, betta, cichlids, algae eaters, goldfish, etc., are gorgeous, the frogs adorable, and Optimus...so handsome! He looks just like my old Alan.

Hi Trilamb13,

I'm looking at the photo of your frogs (far more interesting to me than are all the fish at PC, including my own; no offense to anyone else on PC ). About the darker frog in the photo (Izzy?) - is the white spot behind its left arm (right side of the photo) a bump or just the color of its skin? If the spot is a bump, and if there is a matching bump on the other side of its body, then Izzy is a male. The bumps are pheromone secreting "breeding glands" and only males have them. (see photo)

About the lighter-colored frog on the left, facing towards the right of the picture (Tcabod?), I don't see a bump on the side of its body just behind the arm; unless you can see a distinct bump there (and on the opposite side of the body), then Tcabod is either a female or sexually undeveloped male; it might be immature, too small to sex accurately, but from its body proportions and relative size in the photo (compared to the betta), I'd expect that it should be sexable by that size. Honestly, just looking at the shape of Tcabod's body (rather thin and straight), I would guess it's a male; but I don't see any bump behind the arm to confirm that. Adult females have more of a pear-shaped body: very large around the abdomen when full of eggs, and more narrow towards the head.

No matter, your frogs look really good. Enjoy your frogs (oh, and your fish too)!

Thank you for the info! We actually inherited them from a friend and they like to hide a lot so this was the first shot that I could get with them out together. Unfortunately we lost one of them yesterday for unknown reasons. I checked the water and it was good so I did a 30% wc in case there was something else that I didn't detect. The corys, bn pleco and the other frog seem to be doing ok but I am keeping my eye on them.
