My recent syno purchase from Pier Aquatics

Post by wrasse »

Here's a pic of an exciting new syno, similar to S Caudalis.
This was soon after it arrived at the shop.
It's now with meeeeeeee :d
I'll post some more when it's used to the camera and fattened up.
It's such an elegant fish. It's already feeding well, so it's past the worry stage.

OH WOW IS THAT AN AWESOME FISH!

Congratulations! SO nice to see someone get a rare syno that is not a hybrid (even though my Bullitt is very handsome). Please keep us updated with information and pictures.

I will do Jodilynn.
The beauty of this shop is... The guy who runs it knows what he's doing and sources the real deal. This fish came to the UK from the Congo via france... A long journey.
With some tlc, good water and good food it was soon ready for its next journey... to my place.

Very nice purchase! :-BD

What size is it now?
What will it be sharing a tank with, Mats' old Synodontis flavitaeniata group?
Dreaming of a full-on 5x2x2 Zaire River rapids biotope...

It is truly a stunner!

This is the true caudalis as far as I can say, but throws into the question the identity of some other genuine fish - like the beautiful one in Sands CotW vol 2 & Sands (Salamander) - I had one of these & it was very different & never got the caudal extensions (not pictured in Cat-e-log)
Lou: Every young man's fantasy is to have a three-way.
Jacob: Yeah not with another fu**!ng guy!
Lou: It's still a three-way!

Yup, it's a tricky one to ID, but unless we see more of these I think it's going to remain tricky. It will be interesting to see if any other turn up in other markets outside of the EU or if there are more shipments / what different sized fish look like.

This http://www.planetcatfish.com/common/ima ... ge_id=9029 is the real S. caudalis (adult version) I am certain.

This one could be as simple as just a sport as far as the pattern...but...The humeral, the cap and the adipose fin(long and low) so far all "seem" different...as I have mentioned to my good friend Mr. Wrasse ( I think I mentioned it once or twice) I really would like to see this fish again with a couple months of conditioning. I am leaning towards it being a addition to the group of long fin long bodied congo syno's...but as jools said it sure would be nice if more would show up.
