Systematics of Arius Seemani ?

Post by plesner »

Who gave Arius seemani its present name and where was it published ? I've seen Hexanematichthys rather than Arius and seemanni rather than seemani.

seemanni should be the correct spelling. The species was originally described as Arius seemanni by Günther.
The problem with the genus Arius is that it is not monophyletic and people have tended to lump everything in this one genus because of the difficulty in diagnosing ariid genera properly.
