hemigrammus ulreyi
Hi all,
anybody have any experience with hemigrammus ulreyi? I can't find a lot on the net. Behaviour, are they shy, or nippy? Size appears to be 5-6,5cm, can anybody confirm this? another interesting thing; to my knowledge, these were known as astyanax lago tefé before, but they are said to be endemic to the rio paraguay basin.. isn't that well away from lago tefé (near Manaus)? Anybody know where that comes from?
cheers,
alleykat

Hi Alleykat,
Have you read these reports?
http://www.seriouslyfish.com/species/he ... us-ulreyi/
http://www.aquariumfishexperts.com.au/t ... ine-tetra/
There is some conflicting info in these (e.g., fast vs. slow stream habitat), but otherwise they have similar info.
Cheers, Eric

Hi
I've kept these for years and love them. Easy to keep, not nippy at all and very hardy. I have found that they like to be in small groups...
I keep these guys with Corys and Congo Tetras with no problems at all..
Let me know if you need more info on them...

hi all,
yes eric I had seen those. thanks anyways! Characinkid, would you be able to tell me what size yours are? Like what is your biggest specimen, and how big are they 'on average'? I've seen everything said from 4-8cms but to me that's kind of a big size difference. Thanks! Btw, any experience with moenkhausia intermedia or agnesae? Happy new year all, btw:p

Hi
My biggest ones are around 6-7cm and they are about 4-5 years old and have not grown in the last year or so.
I've kept M. intermedia and they are great schooling fish that are peaceful, agnesae is not one that I have had but has been on my wish list...

thanks characinkid!
agnesae appears to be a size bigger than aforementioned species, and probably not as peaceful either.. but they sure are fascinating. probably time for me to have a look in the 'odd characin' thread
