What sex are my Pseudacanthicus Leopardus
Hi all,
I've got 2 Pseudacanthicus Leopardus. Both are about 30cm, 11-12in long. I'm really wondering what sex they are.
Any help appreciated
Best regards,
Simon

Is this 11-12" SL or TL?

At that size my males have much wider heads. How warm are they being kept?

11-12" is between SL and TL. The buckets diameter is 12". So TL of the plecos is bit longer.
I keep them at 28 - 30°C (82 - 86°F)
Cheers Simon

Barbie is on the right path. For that length they are under weight. My wife and I think the first is a female and the second might be as well. She is right more than I am these days. The cat-elog has a photo of one of our pairs for comparison. The female is obviously gravid but you can see distinct differences. We noticed the pelvic fins are curved which means female. Feed them a bit more and you might see some changes.
They are nice at that size!

Thanks Pseudasmart. Yes I can see why you are thinking female. I have L114 and the females are much plumper - the skinnier build confused me.

You're welcome. My input is just an opinion and I take no offense if someone disagrees. Discussion helps everyone to learn.
I use massivore as the primary food for large Pseudas. It is effective and seems to keep the waste down.
Perhaps an update to this thread in 4-5 months?

Re: What sex are my Pseudacanthicus Leopardus
After looking at a few more pics I agree the head is not wide enough at that size to be a male. I also feed massivore a fair bit to my L114's - its a great food.

An update in a few months would definetly be interesting
Second fish is quite thin. This is because first has grown faster now and started to be territorial. As long as second one was bigger, I've never had that problem so I've separated them now.

My L114 LOVE Repashy Spawn & Grow. Like, fight like mad over it if I don't put enough in when I feed.

Hi Barbie,
unfortunately we cant seem to get Repashy in New Zealand but it sounds like great food. My L114's get mainly massivore but they also seem to like a few algal wafers as well.
