Red and Black Ancistrus?

Post by swavis »

Hi there, my first post here :-SS .

I'm looking for help to ID what I was sold as a Red and Black Ancistrus. Unfortunately I can't find anything under that name and wondered if anyone here could help with identification. The guy in the shop described it as a good algae eater and would grow to about 75mm long. It's currently about 20mm long and is more of an orange and brown than a red and black.

It looks like a calico/piebald. http://www.planetcatfish.com/common/spe ... cies_id=49

But it will grow larger than only 75 mm. By the way, the fins don't look pretty good. Like bitten?

Yes I thought that also. That pic was taken when I first took it home and thankfully the fins seem to be growing back and it's looking a bit better now.

Hi, just thought I'd update with a healthier looking pick of my Ancistrus, as you can see the tail's grown back again and it's looking a lot better. He/she is getting on great b-)
