Between Ancistrus and Corydoras what would the next easiest Catfish be to raise, in a smaller tank? I have had both BN's and Cory's for sometime now, but was wondering what else I could raise for catfish. I have three wild caught Hoplo's and (1) Brown Bullhead (which I like a lot,)but the Hoplo's seem less interesting than most so I look to you guys to tell me what the next best Catfish would be the easiest! You can contact me direct if you wish!
What did you have in mind? Though the common Ancistrus is fairly easy I can assure you several other species will definitely give you a challenge. Same can be said for corys. I found Hemiloricaria and Sturisoma fairly easy, the challenge was in raising the fry.
Peckoltia and Hypancistrus would also be good choices.
.
I consider them to be the Hypancistrus equivalent to the common Bushy Nose.
Very easy and prolific. The fry are a breeze to raise and they grow fast.
Often begins spawning by age 18 months.
Bullheads are pretty much invincible in my experience. I have a 6" yellow that was caught out of dirty, stagnant, muddy water in perfect health and unfortunately had to go through a nitrate spike in my 75 gallon which he survived just fine. Not saying y sold expose them to dirty water but they'll live in it for a while. They do get big though, expect your brown to hit 14-16".
Are the Peckoltia brevis & Peckoltia bachi readily available! I was not able to find them on Aqua-bid. I would take anyone s recommendation if I could find the fish!
