12 pygmy corydoras in 5 gallon

Post by F3-RapalaAngler »

So I started with 7 but after reading how they need at least 10 I went back to get more and didn't want to leave just two so I got 5. The new pygmy cories though seem to be lighter colored even they are a tad bigger. They school and they eat. Just wondering why they're not as dark in color

Also it's my understanding that these corydoras are midrange swimmers yet mine seem to be bottom dwelling could it have something to do with the filter current?

How long have you had the new ones? Could be stress coloration from the move. Also, based on your other posts, am I correct that you now have 12 pygmies, 2 albinos (presumably aeneus) and an oto in the 5 gallon?

It's my understanding that 12pygmys in this tank isn't too much as I was told on this forum some keep 8 in a 2.5gallon

Hi all,
It's my understanding that 12 pygmys in this tank isn't too much as I was told on this forum some keep 8 in a 2.5gallon
The experiences of "Medaka" and "Coryman", show that it isn't impossible, but I'd also note from this thread that they've <http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/view ... 7&p=273792> both had Corydoras catfish live for over 10 years, and in Coryman's case a C. pygmaeus for 14 years.

Without going back through the other thread <http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/view ... =6&t=40143>, two extremely experienced and skilled catfish breeders have kept groups of & species in small volume tanks successfully, but that isn't quite the same thing as saying its fine.

For me it isn't really the size of the fish that is relevant, it is the problem of keeping conditions stable in small water volumes. For relatively sensitive fish larger tanks make water management a whole lot easier.

cheers Darrel
