Identification requested for this Catfish

Post by AmyD »

Hi Guys,
I had this catfish which unfortunately died on arrival to my tank. He was sick at the Pet Store and wanted to see if I could save him. I would love to order a new one but the Pet Store staff have no idea what it is called or what species it is. Does anyone know the name of this catfish? I have attached a picture of it. Its head was a dark brown color before it passed away and its skin resembled that of a boa constrictor very similar to the second attached pic.

Thank you, much appreciated!

Amy

This is not a catfish, but a loach. It looks to be Homaloptera confuzona to me.

Hey, sorry about the fish.

This isn't a catfish, but a loach. I'm pretty sure that it belongs to the genus Homaloptera. There are several species in that genus that look quite similar.

Have a look at the following link about one of these species (with patterns that really are very similar to those of a Boa constrictor!): http://www.loaches.com/species-index/ho ... thogoniata

Hope this helps!

Thank you so much guys! Really appreciate your help.
My apologies for thinking it was a catfish species :) Managed to get a Butterfly Catfish this morning, beautiful looking fish.
Thanx again and enjoy your day.
