My cats page says I haven't registered any populations yet..

Post by wax32 »

... But I have! I notice that there's no link to my cats page in my post headers like other ppl have. Am I doing something wrong?

Are you going to the Cat-eLog, selecting species page and then clicking on 'add to My Cats' ?

I'm using the search bar right under the menu at the top of the page. I find my cat and click the add to my cats link. I think this is using the Cat e log, right?

I tried actually surfing thru the menues starting with the cat e log tab also and added one that way. I see them myself on my "my cats" page but I still get the "you haven't registered any species" notice at the top. Weird huh?

I'll have a look into this. What appears to be happening is that the site isn't calculating your total number of "my cats" records. If it was then you would not see the message you mention and you would also have a "My Cats" link to the right of each of your forum posts.

You do have several my cats records, present and archived that I can see. So it appears you are selecting them OK.

Off the top of my head, it might just be it takes a while for this to be calculated, but longer than a day seems wrong.

Interesting. It says there are no registered species, and then lists a bunch:
http://www.planetcatfish.com/common/my_ ... name=wax32

I'm also having a quick look to see if I can spot anything wrong.

Edit: I have "fixed" the problem - but it's a bit weird, as you have to view the page with "filter=1" (which is "Include species no longer kept" in the list of filters at the top of the page), but you don't get that if you have "no species registered". And of course, this is a "I can't get any chickens, because I have no eggs" type problem. I'm going to have a look tomorrow (or something) to see if I can find a better solution of doing this...

Seems to be broken again. When I click on my cats I get this error.

Fatal error: Call to undefined function my_aquaria_image_url() in /home/webcat/planetcatfish.com/common/includes/my_fish_keeper_list.php on line 291

That's a completely different problem.

I will have a look to see what recent changes have caused that. It's probably a simple fix.

(I started looking at the other problem, but work has to take priority, because that's what pays the bills for me and the ex-wife + kids)

Edit: Seems to already have been fixed.

That your "my cats" has not registered any populations? Yes, that problem is definitely not fixed.

I'm still trying to figure out what the right solution is. We're going to rewrite most of these pages in the near future, so I'm tempted to do a "quick fix", which is basically that you get a slightly different message, involving something like "Newly added species will be registered properly within 24 hours"), and every 24 hours, we run a script that update the counts for all "my cats" populations. The other option(s) involve rewriting much of the code that handles updates to counts, which is a little more work, and I'd rather spend that time on getting the "new code right".

Ok, that's definitely a problem for Jools - he's working with various image functionality, and moving pictures around. I'm sure he'll sort that soon, but thanks for reporting, as there are lots of different places that images are used in different ways.

Finally managed to drag myself away from other things and do some work on this.

I have submitted two pieces of code for Jools to upload to the site:
1. A script that can be run once a day or some such, which will fix users who in the past have registered species, and it's not been counted correctly (in R1381)
2. An update to count up/down as appropriate when users add/remove species from now on. This works best if the above script has been run first, as removing a species from the list when the current count is zero, there will be an error on the SQL update. (in R1382)

OK, so Mats script is in place and will begin reporting results today. I will also look at the problem with the images (the big black areas with yellow text) over the next couple of days too.

I think the changes that I made in R1387 will fix the "black image" problem. It turned out to be somewhat inconistent use of "my_fish" vs. "my_cats" vs "nothing" that caused problems (and because it's in the middle of a very long path, it was hard to spot took me a couple of hours to figure out the difference, after I'd fixed the "nothing" problem).

As usual, my changes have been sent to Jools. He will check them, and upload to the site at some point in the future, and report back here when it's done.
