lone Black Corydoras Schultzei, get more of the same or can

Post by Greg Y »

I had 6 baby Black Corydoras Schultzei that I won at a local fish auction in my 4'x2' footprint 110gal. planted community tank.

I had some sort of sickness or disease go through the tank and wipe out a lot of my fish, leaving me with one lone "very plump" black cory cat.

They seemed happy when I had 6 but honestly they never displayed any schooling behavior.

I contacted the breeder in an attempt to get more but I haven't heard back from him.

My lfs has some nice reticulated cory cats, some listed as San Juan, etc... none of them are cheap, like $7-12 each.
Petsmart/ petco have some ranging from $3.50-8 each

I was thinking if I can't get more Schultzei for him to chum around with maybe I should just mix it up and buy a different cory cat every time I go to the pet store and put them in quarantine, or will I just have a bunch of lonely cory cats missing their mates then? I mean would it be better to get 4-6 of a single other kind for him to chum with?

also this in a 110 gal, neutral ph, 78.5 degrees ...

PS
they will share the bottom of the tank with 4 Bolivian Rams

any suggestions?

I like to mix and match them. Mine seem to not care that their tank mates are different species.

A Cory-collection defo isn't a decent Cory-shoal. As said at another forum : If you can't get Blacks and you won't breed them : het "normal" Schultzei / Aeneus. Those (sub)species will defo interact and have "healthy" social behaviour. Cheers Aad
