The catfish distributions sticky

Post by Jools »

This sticky is meant to consolidate all of the posts dealing with papers on catfish distribution (excluding descriptions of new taxa, revisionary studies, and biogeography papers). This is meant to be a single point of reference for such papers so that data for updating the Cat-eLog is readily available in a single thread.

Please post news of such papers in this thread and not the forum proper. Posts will be consolidated in this thread if necessary.

Thank you

Too bad only described species are mentioned. I was in some of their sampling areas, and know much more species, catfish and others, can be found there

Still, any inormation about the fishes of Uruguay is highly appreciated by me

Re: New Rineloricaria record

Post by Bas Pels »

Thank you

Quite a lot of work on Rhineloricaria still needs to be done.

This studie relates to fish living close to Paraguay, but in Uruguay virtually in every river one can find Rhineloricarias.

2 species a described, from 1 river, the Rio Santa Maria. Therefore, noone knows what he or she will find.

Hi all following this thread.

I had recently seen the above paper that I noted and thought that it would fit nicely herein.

But, I thought afterwards: Is this "sticky" strictly an H.H. project? If so, please pardon my butting in. Please let me know.

Is there a reason why this Rineloricaria is in the Cat-eLog as Hemiloricaria?

According to this, Hemiloricaria is a synonym of Rineloricaria.

Southerly range extension of Trichomycterus barbouri

Post by bekateen »

Y.P. CARDOSO & S. BOGAN. 2015. Ampliación de la distribución de Trichomycterus barbouri (Siluriformes, Trichomycteridae) para la Argentina. Rev. Mus. Argentino Cienc. Nat., n.s., 17(2): 147-151.ISSN 1514-5158 (print); ISSN 1853-0400 (on line)
Cardosa & Bogan wrote:ABSTRACT
(Eigenmann, 1911) is a little-known species with a discontinuous distribution from the Beni River in Bolivia, in the Amazon River basin, to northwestern and central Argentina, in the Río de la Plata basin. Here, we describe new records of T. barbouri from three rivers of the chaco-pampean plain, two in the Santiago del Estero province and one in the Cuarto River basin in Córdoba province. These reports allow expanding the known area of distribution of the species, extending southwards the limit of the known distribution. Trichomycterus barbouri is the only species of the genus widely present in the chaco-pampean plain.
