not an inspector, not a contradens, maybe
These fish are almost 3 years old, got them at about 1.25", now about 3.75". They were sold as Contradens but the seller (a very reputable hypan breeder) wasn't sure if they are Contradens or an unidentified species. A lot of people have looked at these fish and no one seems to know if they are Contradens or not. The spots are much smaller than any Contradens I've seen and the greyish blotches have me baffled. Any ideas?

Looks like L201, but could be contradens. The blotches are probably just from stress.

all of the inspectors i've ever had or seen pictures of, have a black edge on the tail fin as I recall, maybe all the fins, it's been awhile since I've had any. these guys have tails like contradens. possibly an undescribed variant? i'm planning on selling these fish to make some room - safe to post as inspectors or contradens or 'seller has no idea'?
thanks for the replies!

Definitely not inspector... Could be L201 or H. lunaorum to me.

Agree. We should use the correct names for identifying fish, Inspektor is used many times for L201...Suckermouth wrote:Definitely not inspector... Could be L201 or H. lunaorum to me.
I have H. Inspektor and they have a forked tale, black seems on their fins and the dots are white or yellow/orange colored. Also headshape is different to L201 and H. Contradens.
Here is one of my L102, picture taken about a year ago.
