Came in as Synodontis cf. budgetti $:-\$

Fish abt 5in TL.

Fm a layman point of comparison, it does look like Synodontis haugi.

I do not believe so, at this size I think would still have juvi attributes especially juvenile spot pattern, and the humeral is different than for frontosus.

Have you found anything on the origin yet?

Exported out fm Nigeria. However, I am not sure whether they were collected fm there or nearby region.

It is a very beautiful Synodontis Ben, but I'm quite sure it's not haugi. Snout is wrong, adipose is too large and inner barbels has too long branches in it. At your new photo do I see correct that it has spikes on its humerall process?

Yes, I am not convinced what we were calling haugi, is actually that.

I am quite sure a couple of these brown spotted ones we see are as yet undescribed.
They would be a major project to sort though.
Interesting to note the only synos that have been newly described recently besides tanganyikan synodontis in the last ten years are ones that are distinctly different.

With the details above and add the shape of the humeral and barbels as Petterei alluded to and the great pictures (as always Ben)....we could say this is the intermediate spot pattern between juvi and adult of (thanks naturalart)
I think the pictures we have been calling S.haugi would be this and we will have to continue to wait for a live S. haugi to come along. Ben you should be looking forward to the eventual loss of the spots as it continues to mature.
